ChatGPT is on everyone's lips. The AI tool can also be used in recruiting and support HR staff in their search for talent. We show 5 examples of how ChatGPT can be used in recruitment processes.

Artificial intelligence is on the rise. Intelligent technologies and machine learning are also increasingly being used in recruitment. AI-based recruiting tools such as flynne have been involved in talent acquisition for several years and are continuously being developed and optimized.

Currently, one artificial intelligence is particularly present in the media: ChatGPT. It is a chatbot that uses AI to understand and respond to human dialogues. Anyone can currently try out the prototype for free after a short registration.

We put ChatGPT to the test and examined the extent to which the bot can be used for recruiting measures. Does the chatbot even perform better and more intelligently than human recruiters in some areas?

Here are our 5 usage scenarios.

1) Create job advertisements with AI

First, we wanted to know how useful the AI tool is when writing job advertisements.

Our requirement:

“Think like a recruiter.

Write a job posting for a SAP FI CO Consultant for an IT consulting company.

Use simplified language, not academic language. Format your answer: use a heading, subheadings, bullet points."

The result:

Stellenausschreibung mit ChatGPT erstellt

Not bad, right? At least as a first text basis that needs to be optimized, the job advertisement is perfect. ChatGPT created it in just under 10 seconds.

2) Improve understanding of the position to be filled

Recruiters sometimes find themselves in a situation where they have to fill a position that they don't really know what it entails. Googling can help to get a better idea of a particular job and the associated requirements, but it is often tedious and time-consuming. Can ChatGPT help recruiters to better understand the position to be filled?

In our example, the recruiter’s task is to find SAP consultants who specialize in SAP GTS-S/4 HANA.

Our question to ChatGPT is therefore: “What does an SAP consultant who specializes in SAP GTS-S/4 HANA do?”

The answer:

Jobbeschreibung mit KI generiert

As always with AI results, the information should be viewed with a critical eye, but it can certainly help as a quick initial orientation.

We followed up and wanted to know specifically: “What hard skills and what soft skills should I look for to fill the position of ‘SAP Consultant specializing in SAP GTS-S/4 HANA’? Format your answer with headings and bullet points.”

The chatbot’s response:

Mit ChatGPT ermittelte Soft & Hard Skills

A very useful first overview of the important skills you should have for this job. The compilation was generated by ChatGPT in less than 30 seconds.

3) Create search terms for active sourcing

In order to systematically search for candidate profiles, recruiters often create a list of keywords that match the job profile. Synonyms and related technical terms should also be included here. In addition to classic keyword research tools, ChatGPT can also provide inspiration for this task.

We therefore specify to the chatbot:

“Think like a recruiter. For the job posting “Senior Marketing Manager (m/f/d)”, create a list of keywords that I can use to search for suitable candidates for this position.

Also list synonyms for the most important search terms. Use formatting in your answer such as headings, subheadings, and bullet points to structure the information."

The answer follows promptly and is neatly formatted as requested:

Mit ChatGPT erstellte Keyword-Liste

A remarkable list that can complement other search term research by active sourcers.

4) Compile interview questions with ChatGPT

ChatGPT can also help with interview preparation. For example, the chatbot can compile typical questions that can be asked to the applicant.

That's why we wrote: "Create a list of 20 questions for a job interview with a renewable energy engineer."

ChatGPT’s response:

Interviewfragen mit ChatGPT Künstlicher Intelligenz erstellt

Some questions seem quite superficial or imprecise, while others are certainly suitable as inspiration for a job interview.

Of course, our request can be further specified. For example, we could request behavior-related questions or questions that are tailored to a renewable energy engineer in a specific area such as wind power plants or biogas combustion plants.

5) Create text for direct contact with a candidate

We wanted to see if ChatGPT could formulate an effective text that we could use to write directly to a candidate and get them excited about a vacant position. The chatbot was supposed to create an effective cover letter for our job advertisement "Talent Acquisition Generalist".

Our request: “I give you a job advertisement and you write an email that will inspire the candidate and win them over for the position.

Start the text by asking if the candidate is interested in professional development and then introduce the job description. Outline the benefits and write in easy-to-understand language without filler words.

Use metaphors and literary devices to make your argument convincing and memorable. The cover letter should be friendly, informative and entertaining.

At the end there should be an invitation to apply. The text may be a maximum of 250 words long.

Job advertisement: [Here we have copied the job advertisement “Talent Acquisition Generalist”]”

The result of ChatGPT:

Direktansprache an Kandidaten mit ChatGPT AI erstellt

At 267 words, the cover letter is a little longer than the requirement, but overall the result is impressive. Here, too, you can specify more specific requirements, for example in terms of formatting and style.

Conclusion

ChatGPT can be a real help in certain recruiting processes. It is important to keep in mind that an AI can only be as smart as the data and information it uses. Accordingly, you should never rely on the results being 100 percent correct. Experience shows that the better the briefings, questions and specifications are formulated, the better the results of ChatGPT are.

The intelligent chatbot is unlikely to replace human recruiters any time soon. Although it can sometimes provide information and suggested solutions in a matter of seconds, as described above, these always have to be critically examined first and are usually only sufficient as an “initial basis” that needs to be optimized (by humans!).
