A job exchange or job portal is an online platform that serves to bring companies and applicants together via the Internet. Companies can publish job advertisements on a job exchange. Applicants, in turn, search for vacancies there.
There are different types of job portals:
General job boards
General job boards offer a variety of job offers across regions and industries. The ads cover all job categories for all regions of a particular country and list suitable job offers, apprenticeships, mini-jobs and internships.
Niche job portals
Niche job boards limit their job advertisements to specific industries, such as the health or financial sectors. There are often niche job boards for jobs with specific professional qualifications, skills and expertise - for example, job portals for doctors, engineers or lawyers.
Regional job boards
Regional job boards only list job offers from certain regions/cities. The selection of advertisements is therefore smaller overall, but may be particularly extensive for the corresponding location.
Commercial job boards
Most job boards are commercial platforms. They charge companies a flat fee for membership, for example, or manually for each job advertisement published on their sites. Applicants can usually use the portals for free, but often have the option of creating a profile and unlocking special functions for a fee - for example, uploading their CV.
Non-commercial job boards
The use of non-commercial job boards is free for companies and applicants. However, this usually involves significantly more effort for companies, as the functions and services offered are not as extensive as those offered on commercial platforms.
Choosing the right job board can be an essential factor for the success of the recruiting process.
